December: How Did We Get Here So Fast?

A full year since my first blog! How did it come round so fast? December. This month feels a bit like the grand finale of a fireworks show - everything’s happening all at once, and by the time you’ve taken it all in, the year is over. One moment you’re cautiously planting tulip bulbs in March, and the next you’re panicking because you have to start buying Christmas presents and there's only Twenty days left to do it in.
Time flies when you’re… alive, I guess?
So before we skid into the New Year like a penguin on a greased sledge (not sure where that analogy came from) December deserves our respect. It’s the last chapter of the year’s book - a slightly chaotic chapter with way too much tinsel, but still an important one.
So now the bit where I try to compare the year with a Garden. Because a year is a bit like a Garden. You start with grand plans, dreaming of bountiful harvests and Instagram-worthy flowers, But then life happens. Some seeds never sprout, weeds take over, and occasionally a squirrel will dig up your best intentions. (Why do squirrels feel the need to rearrange everything? Are they Garden Designers at heart?)
But December is also a chance to do a little end-of-season gardening for your life. I know you can’t plant a tree and watch it grow overnight, but you can tidy up, mulch what needs protecting, and plan for next year. Maybe you didn’t achieve all your 2024 goals, but hey, you’re still here, and that’s worth celebrating.
So here’s to the last Hurrah of 2024. I'm going to take a moment to appreciate how far I've come, because before I know it, January will be here, and we'll all be making those same optimistic resolutions that we probably won’t keep all over again. And that’s the beauty of it. Life keeps moving, and we keep planting.
So if you can be bothered, my song of the month: Cher Lloyd. Sirens.
Merry Christmas! 🎄
