October: Leaves & Letting Go..

I saw this quote the other day, along with a little cartoon of a tree having all its leaves pulled off in the wind..
“Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go.” I like this. Alot.
So as the nights draw in & the year begins its gentle close, I find myself quietly grateful — for the warmth of home, for the garden still breathing beneath the soil, & for the lessons that come wrapped in falling leaves. October reminds me that life doesn’t need to be perfect to be precious. We just have to show up, with open hands & an open heart, & trust that everything - even the endings - has its own kind of light.
Think of it as a cosmic decluttering session for the soul. Light a candle, sip something warm (or in my case something cold & a little fizzy) & ask yourself: What no longer feels aligned?
Then, like a tree, let it fall....
And ......B...R....E....A....T...H..E... ❤️
However, don't relax too much just yet! Although the leaves are falling & the garden is winding down, there’s plenty of magic still happening in the soil.
Here’s my October to-do (slowly & enjoy) list:
🌸 Plant spring bulbs: Tulips, daffodils, & crocuses — they’re little promises buried in the earth. Future-me will thank present-me come April.
🍂 Tidy (but not too much): Leave some seed heads for the birds & insects. It’s nature’s buffet — and the sparrows will appreciate our generosity. The Hedgehogs will use them for their nests.
🌾 Harvest herbs: Dry sage, rosemary, & thyme for winter stews & smudge bundles.
& while I'm out there, I'll be breathing in that crisp October air. It smells faintly of woodsmoke, nostalgia, & new beginnings - an uplifting cocktail.
October doesn’t judge. It just gently reminds me that it’s okay to let go - that the trees don’t panic about the leaves they’ve lost, because they trust more will grow....
My Crystal for October: Obsidian
October has a deep, reflective energy - the kind that invites long walks & longer thoughts. I’ve been keeping a piece of Black Obsidian by my bedside lately. It’s grounding, protective, & helps me sort through things quietly (both my thoughts & my overstuffed to-do list).
There’s something very October-ish about it — dark, strong, & honest. Obsidian doesn’t do fluff. It asks, What truth are you avoiding? & then politely hands you a mirror.
If you ever feel scattered this month, hold some Obsidian in your hand. It’s like having a spiritual anchor.
So here’s to October 🥂 May we all let go of what’s heavy, hold close what’s dear, & find the beauty in every falling leaf.
& last but not least; my song for the month: Air - All I need...
