July - The Turtle & the Rabbit

Whilst out walking my dog a few days ago, I passed an elderly chap in the lane. He had his flat cap on, perched on a sort of mobility chair with wheels. He was slowly but determinedly cutting back the brambly hedgerow near his house on a public footpath with a rusty pair of shears.

I commented on his work as I squeezed past & told him what a great job he was doing - his reply "it keeps me out of mischief!"

As I walked away, I noticed he had already cut at least 5 meters of that hedge, it must have taken him all day. I turned & looked back at that old guy, he must've been around 80, & I felt slightly guilty - & very inspired! Here I was, moaning about my health & how difficult life is, when I hopefully have another 30 years before I get to his age - & its possible to keep on going, even if you have to slow the pace. And if he's still trying to abstain from mischief at 80 - then I hope I will be too!

Talking of slowing the pace...

I still don't get why people are so surprised that the turtle beat the rabbit in the long run.

Consistent effort, no matter how small, sparks magic, fills sails, butters bread, turns tides, instills faith, summons friends, improves health, burns calories, creates abundance, yields clarity, builds courage, spins planets, and rewrites destinies.

So as we move past the halfway point of the year, July stands as a beacon of (hopefully) sunny days. The summer solstice is just behind us, days are long & nights are short. Flowers are in full bloom. it's a season to embrace, to have faith & believe that the best is yet to come....
