In this month of transition, where the earth awakens from its winter slumber and the air dances with the promise of spring, I feel there is much to explore and reflect upon.

March, for me, heralds the awakening of the garden, as the earth finally begins to thaw and the first signs of life emerge from the soil. I actually get excited! It’s a time of preparation and anticipation, as we ready our plots for planting and nurture seedlings under the gentle warmth of early spring sun. From pruning dormant branches to sowing seeds of promise, each task in the garden is imbued with a sense of purpose and renewal.

As I happily dig my hands back into the soil, I reconnect with the rhythm of nature and find solace in the simple act of nurturing life. Whether tending to a small herb garden on a windowsill or cultivating rows of vegetables in a backyard plot, gardening offers a sanctuary where we can slow down, breathe deeply, and cultivate gratitude. It’s my favourite distraction from the parts of my world I want to disengage from for a short while.

Monty Don once described March as like ‘welcoming back old friends’ as the plants emerge once again from months of slumber underground. I’ve always loved that quote ❤️ My friends are coming back....

So as we cultivate our gardens and attune ourselves once again to the rhythms of the earth, we also cultivate our inner gardens, nurturing seeds of wisdom and compassion within our hearts. In the gentle unfolding of petals and the symphony of birdsong, we find echoes of the divine and reminders of our own inherent interconnectedness with all of creation.
