September - The Golden Promise

I feel that a particular softness comes into the air towards the end of Summer. The sun still lingers, warm in the day, but the light has shifted - more golden, more gentle, like it knows its time is nearly up. The evenings draw in earlier & I start to light a candle again. And then there’s that smell in the morning… the Autumnal one… you know it.

My Roses have given their best show, though a few late blooms still cling on, stubborn and beautiful. My favourite - the Lavender, has thinned but still holds that dreamy scent when I brush past & the last of the bumble bees hum lazily around it. My grass is still brown after this unusually hot summer, but I know it will be lush & green again by Octobers end.

As Summer slips away, I find myself grateful once again. Grateful for the colours & the joy of watching things grow. So I say goodbye gently, with dirty hands and a full heart, knowing Autumn is waiting just around the corner, ready to bring its own kind of magic. Beauty remains, just in different forms, but nothing lasts forever…

Summer might be fading, but it leaves behind the golden promise of Autumn.

Because gardens, much like life, never really end a season - they just turn the page. And If you read the same book over again, I guarantee you'll notice something you missed the first time.

On to my song of the month. I nearly went with Golden Brown by the Stranglers, but it felt too obvious. So after a period of reflection I settled on this... because it has space noises in it 😉
