I don't want to say it .... but I'm going to.... brace yourselves...
"It feels a bit Autumnal!"

There. I said it... & that's me, above, a couple of years ago... contemplating September.
It's as if this month stands as a bridge between the vibrant growth of summer and the quiet dormancy of winter. The days are gradually growing shorter (did it get dark really early last night??) Summer's warmth is beginning to wane and the first hints of autumn coolness are in the air. The sun is also noticeably lower in the sky... which means the awesome sunsets are on their way! And that, my friends, is my absolute favourite!!
The air is starting to become a little more crisp, and the sun is softening, casting a gentler light that transforms my garden into a canvas of deepening colors. Plants begin to prepare for the colder months ahead, with some late bloomers like chrysanthemums and asters still bringing bursts of colour, while others, like summer annuals, start to fade. The soil, still warm from the summer sun, is perfect for planting fall crops like spinach, kale, and radishes. It’s also an ideal time for dividing and transplanting perennials, allowing them to establish roots before the winter frost.
It's a time of reflection and preparation. The changing season mirroring the internal shifts we all experience as we transition from the outward energy of summer to the inward focus of autumn. I'm looking forward to lighting the fire - but not wanting to admit summer is over!
So as I prune, plant, and tidy up in preparation for winter, separating my thoughts into light & dark, I'm very aware that I'm also tending to my inner garden, letting go of what no longer serves me and planting seeds for future growth. There’s a sense of completion in the air - a recognition that the cycle is closing and that we too must honour our own cycles of activity and rest. The garden becomes a place of quiet magic - a reminder that every ending carries within it the seeds of a new beginning. I'm ready for some new beginnings!
And purely by chance, with the big Oasis reunion confirmed - My Song for September is this ❤️:
I love this piece Lorna, it’s beautifully written ❤️ xxx
